Costa Rica

Goodbye Nicaragua… Hello Marina Loft Costa Rica!

After 5 weeks in Nicaragua, Tyrone and I began searching for more permanent accommodation. It involved moving to Costa Rica, but we found the perfect apartment in Marina Loft Apartments, Playas Del Coco.

Rather than bouncing from one Nicaraguan hostel to the next, we wanted a place to rent by the month. We traveled to all the real estate agents in San Juan Del Sur and we searched on the internet … But nothing!

Our budget is $500/month, and while we could find apartments in our price range, they didn’t really seem that great.

Since San Juan Del Sur is considered a tourist town, most monthly accommodation starts around $600/$650.

If you’re sharing the apartment or house, this isn’t a bad deal. But with just the two of us converting Rands to Dollars, it wasn’t financially feasible.

With temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius, we knew we either needed a place with a pool or it would need to be near the ocean. Things like hot water and AC we could learn to live without, IF we had a pool… Of course WiFi was a must as always!

As we searched the internet, apartments in Costa Rica kept popping up… Eventually we decided to throw caution to the wind. If we could find an apartment in our price range in Costa Rica, we would go there instead! And boom… We found the perfect place!

Marina Loft Apartments – Playas Del Coco, Guanacaste

At Marina Loft Apartments you can rent a small 1 bedroom apartment for just $450/month. This price includes water and electricity, as well as AC, WiFi, access to the communal pool, jacuzzi, barbaque area and laundry area (with washing machine and tumble dryer). It is perfect!

It’s our first weekend here, and we haven’t done much… We’re still settling in at Marina Loft! But we did do a quick walk around Playas Del Coco and Playa Ocotal, and it’s beautiful!

The black beaches of Ocotal!
This beach sand buuuurns…

Over the next few weeks, we’re going to do a lot more exploring!
